Ripple has executed a series of 10 million RLUSD treasury burns in rapid succession since July 6, 2026, reducing the circulating supply of its U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin by approximately 20% from its peak. According to blockchain data tracked by the Ripple Stablecoin Tracker, 10 million RLUSD tokens were sent to a null address on July 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (twice), 13, and 14 — totaling over 80 million RLUSD burned in roughly two weeks.

What Treasury Burns Mean

Fiat-backed stablecoins operate on a mint-and-burn model aligned with underlying reserve activity. When institutional customers deposit U.S. dollars, Ripple mints new RLUSD tokens. When customers redeem RLUSD for U.S. dollars, the tokens are burned. The null-address destruction removes them from circulation permanently.

The most recent mint event prior to this burn sequence was July 6 (20 million RLUSD created). The subsequent daily burns suggest significant institutional redemption activity — customers converting RLUSD back to fiat. This is normal stablecoin operation and does not indicate RLUSD is losing adoption. It indicates the institutional participants who received RLUSD in exchange for dollars are now converting back, completing a settlement cycle.

Supply Contraction Numbers

According to CoinGecko data, RLUSD's current market capitalization stands at approximately $1.52 billion. At the stablecoin's market cap peak in late May 2026, that figure reached approximately $1.9 billion. The contraction represents roughly $380 million, or about 20% of peak supply.

RLUSD's expansion to $1.9 billion coincided with Ripple's push into institutional corridors, the x402 AI payments integration, and the Linux Foundation's adoption of RLUSD as the settlement currency for machine-to-machine payments. The contraction from that peak reflects redemption of positions taken during that expansion phase — not a reversal of the underlying institutional narrative.

RLUSD's Active Deployment

Despite the supply contraction, Ripple has continued expanding RLUSD's utility. On July 14, Ripple joined the Linux Foundation's x402 Foundation as a Premier Member, enabling AI agents to transact using RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for autonomous machine-to-machine payments. Ripple also announced its Ripple Effect initiative with Hire Heroes USA would direct $250,000 in RLUSD-funded grants.
